When it comes to teaching kids, a lot of learning theories, techniques and styles have been introduced and implemented. Reflective learning, however, is an approach that has proved to be the most beneficial for kids because it not only helps them get better at school, but also helps them otherwise.
A Brief about Reflective Learning
Reflective learning is when kids are equipped with skills to think, evaluate and reflect on their daily learning and activities. It involves students thinking and reasoning about the things they have seen learnt or read throughout the day and deriving meanings or conclusions out of it.
All of this helps students by-
* Making them more capable of understanding new concepts by applying the previously gained knowledge.
* Having in depth understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses.

“Reading without reflecting is like eating without digesting.†PICT encourages and guides learners to maintain a daily journal, their Learning Log. Learners pen their understanding about the concepts learnt during the day through graphic notes like mind maps/concept maps/flow charts/KWL tables/notes. They are channelized to write about their thoughts and ideas, what they learnt or conclude out of classroom learning. The art of maintaining their Learning Log not only improves their ability to view their entire day in retrospect, but also reinforces the lessons learnt and help them to apply the concepts in the future. These self study skills help them gain confidence and gain control over their own learning. It helps build up the bond with the educators, children are encouraged to seek answers through healthy and effective classroom discussions and peer learning. The love for learning and the thirst to seek and sort out information as and when needed are fuelled through the skills of referencing within the classroom.
Students at PICT are regularly asked to analyze their work from a third person perspective. This builds in them an ability to critically evaluate their own work and strive for improvement. It makes them more aware of their weaknesses and encourages them to work towards getting better.PICT also encourages peer learning and peer tutoring. We believe that the best way of learning is through teaching peers and activities like these create a strong and positive student centric environment.
